Who We Are
The three partners in the Cape Standard have all travelled extensively and, in 2003, decided to open a Guest House in Cape Town that would best represent the type of home-from-home experience that we would enjoy – stylish yet affordable and, above all, comfortable and casual. Over the years we’ve upgraded and added to the Cape Standard experience but have stuck to our original formula. We’re here to make sure that you’re looked after during your stay with us and that you get the best out of your visit to beautiful Cape Town.
Staffing
People are important to us. Above all we believe that happy people deliver great service and we take our responsibility towards our staff very seriously. Our goal is to attract the best people, reward them appropriately, and give them the opportunity to grow and flourish as individuals in the hope that this will stand them in good stead during their careers, both at the Cape Standard, and beyond.
WE CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
ENERGY
Currently 70% of our hot water requirement is generated via solar heating. Energy saving lamps are used throughout. Eco ceiling insulation, made of 100% recycled paper, and which presents a sustainable low embedded energy content is installed throughout.
WATER
Water saving devices have been fitted to the showers and taps while taking care not to compromise the guest experience.
RECYCLING
All our waste is sorted on site and sent for recycling weekly. Organic waste is used in our own vermi-composting worm farm for use in our garden. Organic waste not used for vermi-composting is used in our E-composter.
ETHICS
We are committed to ethical business practice, fair wages and working conditions, and respect for human rights. We encourage and assist our staff to achieve their full potential.
PRODUCE
We use fresh, seasonal produce wherever possible including free range eggs on our breakfast menu.
